The fantastic work of our volunteers has not gone unnoticed.  In 2010, Philadelphia Magazine recognized PCR for volunteer opportunities with a Best of Philly award! We are currently looking for committed volunteers to serve as Assistant Coaches and Mentors for our upcoming seasons. As our program continues to grow, we need additional mentors to provide support for our rowers.

Please see below for a description of these positions and the time commitment required of each.

PCR is a competitive program that aims to instill hard work, discipline and team work in our athletes.  Assistant coaches work with the Head Coach to implement practices on land and on water with the aim of improving athletes’ technique, strength, and speed. Like all adults in our program, assistant coaches are also expected to serve as role models to our athletes, and thus must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.  We ask our volunteer coaches to commit to one consistent time a week.  Our practices are held weekdays from 4:15-6:30pm and Saturdays 9-11:30am and 12-3pm. If you are interested in volunteering as an assistant coach, please submit the inquiry form below, and we will get back to you shortly!

The PCR Mentoring Program combines young athletes from our program with a caring team of patient adults that can serve as positive role models.  This is meant to provide our young athletes with the support and encouragement they need to succeed in rowing and other aspects of life. Mentoring requires a tremendous amount of understanding and patience to develop fruitful and trusting relationships with our athletes and their families.  However, the rewards are great and can last a lifetime. If you are interested in mentoring with PCR, please contact George Rowley at

PCR relies on volunteer tutors to assist in our academic support program.  Our tutors provide homework help and subject specific assistance.  Tutoring sessions take place on Mondays at 4:30pm at our indoor facility at 2700 Girard Avenue.

Friends are professionals from around the Philadelphia area who use their personal and professional skills and networks to support PCR's mission.  We organize PCR's annual Friendsgiving fall fundraiser and other social events to help raise funds and spread the word about PCR's important work.  We also plan enrichment opportunities and participate in community service events alongside PCR athletes.
