PCR hosts Speaker August Leming

August Leming, the President of SOURCE Institute for Human Performance, is coming to speak to the PCR Rowers.  Dr Leming will speak to the rowers about the use of concentration and visualization.  He will share his 20 years of experience working with athletes to address the benefits and concerns of implementing the "power of attention" towards enhancing overall athletic performance.

PCR Offers Free Swim Lessons in January 2013

PCR in conjunction with SwimAmerica of Greater Philadelphia and William Penn Charter School, a member of USA Swimming Make-a-Splash program, will offer free swim lessons for any Philadelphia Public or Charter High School Student interested in participating in their Rowing Program.  The swim lessons will begin on Saturday, January 12, 2012 at Penn Charter Pool at 2:30PM.  Coaches and members of PCR will be present to take enrollment information.

PCR to race in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta

PCR Rowers will all be racing in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on October 27th & 28th.  For many of our novice rowers, this will be their very first race.  The Head of the Schuylkill Regatta has brought thousands of athletes from the region and far beyond to Philadelphia for what is considered one of the best run, and most challenging head races, in the US. Its popularity caused regatta directors to expand the event to 2 full days.

"Backwards" the Movie to be a PCR Fundraiser

 

The movie "Backwards" was filmed in Philadelphia along our very own Boathouse Row, sharing the journey of one female rower's aspirations to achieve her dream of competing on the world stage as an Olympic rower. PCR has strong ties to the film: Tony Schneider, Chairman of PCR, served as the co-executive producer of the movie, and many of our PCR students were involved in the production and can be seen in various scenes throughout "Backwards."

Oar What Camp

PCR will hold two ONE-WEEK camps for 7th and 8th graders.  This camp will serve an an introduction to rowing and allow the students to familiarize themselves with the sport, the terms used in the sport and to participcate in nutrition education and leadership activities.  The camp is Free and PCR will provide a healthy snack and tokens daily.  Camp meets at Lloyd Hall and is offered Juen 25-29th and July 16th to 20th.  Enrollment forms can be downloaded from our website.

PCR participates in the City Slam at Drexel University

PCR had 27 student-athletes participate in the City Slam held at Drexel University on February 11th.  Two of our novice rowers received medals, Evan Harper and Nate Giello in the Boy's Novice Category.

Winter 2012 Workouts

Open Winter Workouts for the Spring Season will begin on Saturday, January 7th and Saturday, January 28th. No experience is necessary. Practice will start with a brief meeting for all parents and rowers. Then all rowers will get to participate in an erg practice. This will all take place at the Gustine Recreation Center on Ridge Avenue. We are looking for committed students wish a strong desire to join our rowing team. Bring water, athletic clothing and comfortable shoes/sneakers.

Philadelphia City Rowing Welcomes Terry Dougherty as Our New Executive Director

Philadelphia, PA - October 24, 2011 - Philadelphia City Rowing, established in 2010 to empower Philadelphia public school students through the sport of rowing, has named Terry Dougherty as the organization's Executive Director.

Best of Philly 2010

On July 28th, Philadelphia City Rowing attended Philadelphia Magazine’s annual “Best of Philly” party, where we were recognized as the Best Volunteering opportunity in the city. We are honored to receive this award on behalf of all of the current staff and volunteers who work so hard to give our kids a great experience, and who have fun doing it! Shout out to our Haverford interns, our swim instructors, our volunteer coaches from up and down the Row as well as outside of the city, and the many individuals working behind the scenes.
